Stephen’s 30+ years of experience have shaped the philosophy behind Mone Construction: “If you can imagine it, we can build it.” With expertise that extends far beyond the typical remodel, his team specializes in bringing complex, highly customized projects to life.

Stephen’s passion for building began in Ireland at an early age. After watching his parents complete an addition to their family home at age 8, he began crafting garden furniture and picnic tables from the salvaged materials. That passion soon evolved into an entrepreneurial drive. At just 15 years old, he was already taking on increasingly ambitious projects, eventually building his own 5,000-square-foot workshop. While completing his carpentry apprenticeship and working in construction during the day, he spent his nights and weekends growing his own business making furniture and garden sheds for neighbors. This early hustle allowed him to master the finer points of custom millwork, laying the groundwork for his career. 

Seeking international perspective, Stephen brought his talents to Australia for a year to explore the construction industry before relocating to San Francisco in 2011. He quickly cemented his reputation in the Bay Area’s luxury residential construction scene, which ultimately led him to launch Mone Construction in 2015. He is particularly passionate about historic preservation and restoration, taking immense pride in maintaining San Francisco’s beautiful architecture.

Over the years, Stephen’s portfolio has grown to include highly specialized and technically demanding work. Notable projects include the ground-up construction of a custom 4,300-square-foot estate in Healdsburg’s Dry Creek Valley, as well as the commercial build-out of West Portal’s beloved neighborhood staple, George’s Donuts & Merriment.

What truly sets Stephen apart is his approach to people. Known for his integrity, calm demeanor, and solutions-oriented mindset, Stephen is someone clients deeply trust to navigate the inevitable challenges that come with construction.

When he isn’t bringing architectural visions to life, Stephen enjoys time with his family, getting outdoors for bike rides, hikes, and taking on projects of his own. His handcrafted pizza oven has become a family favorite, bringing everyone together for homemade pizza nights.
